Thunderclouds and Torrential Downpours

January 25, 2010

The rain in Sao Paulo the last few days has been really unbelievable.  When we arrived here, it would rain most afternoons, late, around 5 or 6pm.  Now it just rains all the time, big violent storms.  Sun can give way to deep blueish gray clouds instantly and the few drops come, and then more, and then the thunder rumbles in.  Within minutes the thunder and lighting dance their duet and heavy drops come down all together, at once, in a torrent.  It makes it difficult to predict, and even more difficult to plan things.  It’s sort of unreal, the volume of water that can come out of the sky, as if it’s just done being there, fed up and tired.
