Corcovado

August 19, 2009

The tourist plight continued today as Jaime, Chris and I stopped for some açaí this morning and then made our way to the Corcovado.  I’m not into the big statue of Jesus looking over the city, I think it’s sort of erie, and it’s strange that it was installed solely as a tourist attraction.  I can’t deny that it’s interesting, and from up close, it’s just an imposing force, a big, stone statue of Jesus.  We took the train up (not that interesting) and then climbed some stairs and then hopped on the escalator to heaven (of sorts, right? Someone’s heaven, since there’s a Jesus at the top).  The view was unreal.  My pictures are awful iphone pictures, but I hope they give the idea of the 360 degree view of the city.  If Scott had been there he would have taken fantastic pictures, and he does have really gorgeous ones from last year when he visited with Emily.
